I have experience with papermache and as an easily manipulated material it will be good at getting finer details, ideally creases in the forehead that the silicone can then pick up on and retain. I will use a balloon for the base structure, aiming in scale to make a head that is only slightly bigger than an actual head. I want it to be slightly exaggerated to draw the eye, but still discernible as a realistic head, the effect being a bit disturbing. It is also not completely final, I an still have hours to take away whilst still wet. Once I have an aged up model of Alex's head I will coat it in a thin layer of ova glue to better hold up the outside appearance. I do not plan on adding colour to it in any format, the newspaper will age it up as it is. Also I don't know how a silicone mould will react to any other composition.
Experimental materials-- As far as manipulating jelly goes I have not done anything beyond a simple pre made jelly mould before. For the outcome I am unsure whether I want it to be edible, limiting what I could have done with the outcome. The destruction of a jelly head or the time lapsed eating of it would have been quite visceral but because of the materials I have available to me I do not have a solution that would make it safe to eat, ruling out that form of exhibition presentation.
Comparatively paper mache has a much more predictable outcome then jelly, even if the final outcome of jelly does not come out discernibly as a head it will still be allegorical of the point I'm trying to make. That Alzheimers is a deterioration that can be prevented.
