Out of all of my tangents of research the one I return to the most is the contradiction of delicate and danger that exists within these objects. My thoughts were to change the material and the contents, pushing these two aspects to their extreme in order to emphasis the point. At one point i had considered layering my modern take on the object with this concept as well, however too many factors may dilute the message that is attempting to be communicated. I don‘t want this other factor to distract. If I were going to do this though i had considered a coffee cup being the base design, made out paper, tracing paper or paper cut art into the side. Or for a different material again, like a thin fabric? That way instead of a paper cut design, it would be a hand stitched pattern. The seams would give it its looser structure, so it may lean to one side, not breakable but flimsy.

Then to illustrate the potential slight danger snuff brings I am considering the contents of the vessel being pins, these would be visible through the structure with either design, either because of the pattern cut into it, leaving gaps to peer through, or if fabric, the material could be translucent. This does bring the challenge of how the two objects will interact, due to the vessel being quite breakable, but I think that just further depicts the point I’m trying to make.

If I did want to add the element of the modern take with the coffee cup, I think I would need multiple vessel objects to show what I mean, something I do not have the capacity to do in a three week project.

scale?— if i wanted to make the 1:1 ratio more accurate, the pins being the snuff powder, I’d need to drastically increase the size of the vessel. This would take more time as I do not have the supplies on me to do so, so I would need to break down the structure of the vessel a bit more to then be assembled, rather then all cut out of one sheet of paper.

The more modern bottle concepts deal with mass production and company branding, unlike the one off hand crafted design of the snuff bottles, this could be another method of modernising the concept however in order to batch produce the manufacturing of the bottle I would require the access to machines I currently cannot get ahold of. Working from home adds another layer to this project, giving it a sense of one off hand crafted like the original process of producing snuff bottles.
